28 August 2017 12 Principles of Animation
From this video, my lecture ask me to identify 12 principles of animation in this video. Here is my identification and explanation :
1. Squash and Stretch
This principle gives the illusion of weight and volume to a subject, and is often used for comical effect. From this video, you can see a man who climbing a wall, his body movement is squash and stretch when he tried to do it.
Figure 1. Duet Video at 2.24 -2.33
2. Anticipation
This principle prepares the audience for action, and increases realism of action. Sometimes used to heighten the suspense of a action. In other word, the character prepare the some action to anticipate something. For instance, this baby girl slipped and she tried to anticipate that.
Figure 2. Duet Video at 0.54-0.56
3. Arcs
The arc principle is that almost all actions in life have a slightly circular motion. Humans and animals always move in arcs. Arcs increase the realism of the subject's action. From this video, the girl who swimming in the sea and suddenly she move circular as a transition into dancing girl.
Figure 3. Duet Video at 1.15 -1.17
4. Ease In and Ease Out / Slow In and Slow Out
The subjects needs time to slow down - and speed up. Drawings between two extreme pose provide the subject with greater realistic movement. As you can see from this video, an embrio will shown when the star comes out and this embrio disappears when it goes out / down from the frame.
Figure 4. Duet Video at 0.11-.019
5. Appeal
Animated characters need to captivate audiences. Complicated character faces and lack of symmetry often make it difficult for audiences to connect. For instance, this video used this principle as transition to change from a baby to a dancing girl.
Figure 5. Duet Video at 0.56 - 1.13
6. Timing
More frames create slower action, whilst fewer frames create faster action. As you can see from this video, when this girl jumps out is creating slower action as compare to when she is running.
Figure 6. Duet video at 1.02 - 1.06
7. Solid Drawing
Adds weight, volume and 3D illusion to the subjects. From this video, despite being drawn in 2D, this character on a kissing moment should on 3D mode to build audience feeling.
Figure 7. Duet video at 2.45 - 3.00
8. Exaggeration
Present the physical features or elements of a character in a exaggerate form. As you can see carefuly, this girl is not really tall, but when she dance and jumps, her legs look like in long form.
Figure 8. Duet video at 2.00 -2.02
9. Pose to Pose
Involves drawing a few key frames for each action, followed by filling the interval. If you see in figure 8, there is the principle "pose to pose". In the first pose, she jump and open her leg, and the final pose, she was slipped and that boy helped her. So, between the first and final pose, there is interval pose such as running and jump again.
10. Staging
Staging is the principle that every pose or action that a character makes should convey a clear intention. For instance, this girl convey audience that she ready to dance with his dance first pose.
Figure 9. Duet Video at 2.11 - 2.13
11. Secondary Actions
Emphasises and supports the primary actions of the subject, whilst providing scenes with greater life.
In other word, an additional action that reinforces and adds more dimension to the main action. The main action is the girl jump and dancing, but the secondary action is movement of her dress to convey audience that she is dancing.
Figure 10. Duet Video at 2.16 - 2.20
12. Follow Through
Refers to parts of the subject that continue to move after a completed actions. In other words, when a character is in action and stops, nothing stops all at once. So when a character is running and stops, their main body will stop, but the other parts of their body will keep moving for a bit after. For example, this girl has done rolling in the air, her body is stop smootly but if you see her hair is not stop at the same moment when her body stop too.

Exercises Exercise 1 (28 August 2017) - Flipbook
My lecture ask me to create little animation in the flipbook and it requires bounce, rotate, and break. So i created a flying paper-plane, then change into bounce square, and finally change into splash water. (Sorry, there is no picture since the lecture ask that book) Project Progression First Assignment - Limited Animation
Week 1 "There for you" stop motion lyrics. (In group with Vivien) Background music : There For You - Martin Garrix We have plan that lyric will be interpretation as movement, dancing, and also come out with several lyrics to emphasize. Here is our progression Monday, 4 September 2017
Discussion between Vivien and me about what a story/lyric will be happen in our video

2nd Assignment - Metamorphosis
Animation principle that should use is Squash and Stretch ,Slow in and Slow Out, Solid Drawing
Metamorphosis from powerbank to LINE bear
3rd Assingment - Walk Cycle and Lipsync
Walk Cylce
Animation Principle that should use is Follow through and overlapping action , Arcs
First of all , i want to modified the walking style to be jellyfish walk. So i re-record myself to walk with waving hand. It is hard to directly draw flow of walk cycle on adobe animate, so i identify first, then i draw on paper then i trace it in adobe animate.
Video how human walking
The result of identifying how human walking
Jellyfish walking
Hedgehog turn around
Hedgehog walking
Lipsynch
Animation principle that should use is Exaggeration, Appeal, Squash and Stretch
Hedgehog singing
Final Assignment / Final Project - Final Animated to Music 15 Second Loop
Pre Production (Concept Board and Storyboard)
Basicly, my concept board is a human is dancing with 2D creature together and there is a glitch effect because human and 2D creature is different world. That's why there is a glitch effect.
For reference, i used "That's what i like - Bruno Mars"
Also, i used some reference from Pinterest . And here is my storyboard
Storyboard and planning
For the song, i used Dimtri Vegas - Crowd Control.

Calligraphy Exercise We were given briefing about module outline, introduce types of assignment and little introduction about typography such as Western Calligraphy. After that, my group work should select one kind of Western Calligraphy and we chose Copperplate Calligraphy. 1. Western calligraphy is the art of writing and penmanship as practiced in the Western world, especially using the Latin alphabet (but also including calligraphic use of the Cyrillic and Greek alphabets, as opposed to "Eastern" traditions such as Perso-Arabic, Chinese or Indian calligraphy). 2. Copperplate Calligraphy Copperplate is a style of calligraphic writing that uses a pointed steel nib or quill to produce a style of lettering characterized by both thick and thin strokes. C

Extreme Wide Shot (EWS) This shot is to convey / introduce a location where character is in his/her environment to audience. Basicly, it is about geographical location. 2. Wideshot (WS) This shot include entire subject and important object in the immidiate surroundings, but this is shorter shoot than extreme wide shot. 3. Medium Wide Shot (MWS) This ot usually cut off across the legs above or below knees. This shoot is to show the physical setting in which the action is taking place. 4. Medium Shot 1 (MS1) This shot shows the subject that are important to understanding what the subject is doing. Gesture and expression more visible. 5. Medium Shot 2 (MS2) A medium shot of a person performing movement or action, on the other hand, would have to include his arms and
